Romania: Barley harvest sharply down
The cereal harvest has been disrupted by heavy and frequent rainfall. The first barley results as of end of July, show yields sharply down the records reached last year (3.52 t/ha), according to the Home-Grown Cereals Authority. As far as quality is concerned, test weights are low this year (at around 55 kg/hl), except for few areas in the south-east where there are higher than 60 kg/hl.
The coarse grain harvest begun at the beginning of July, later than usual due to a longer than normal winter and recent temperatures below average. 40 to 50% of cereals has already been harvested.
